I play 5-string banjo and acoustic guitar, as well as sing. I have a rich performance history of traveling with/recording with/performing with some of the greatest names in Bluegrass and Acoustic/Americana music, such as James Monroe and with both Bill Monroe and James on their Father & Son tours in the 1980’s and 1990’s, Mac Wiseman, Josh Graves and many, many others. I especially enjoy performing as a soloist with banjo, guitar and vocals. I perform a wide cross-section of genres—many, of which, are not usually associated with 5-string banjo: swing/jazz, Broadway show tunes, Trad Irish and classical. I also do fiddle tunes, Bluegrass, Gospel and other genres more commonly associated with banjo. My vocal pieces are a sampling of music from performers like Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Billie Holliday, Roy Acuff, Bill Monroe, The Carter Family, The Weavers, Hank Williams and many more. I perform more than 400 gigs per year often performing as many as 3 gigs per day. I am VERY polished and I’m used to entertaining people. One of the things I like to offer is a sing-a-long event. For these I hand out song booklets I’ve put together and invite the audience to sing with me on songs they likely either already know, or that they’re familiar with. People often comment 1) about how much they enjoy having the words in hand and 2) about how much they like the song selections. Sing-a-longs are a nice break from band performances. They give the audience time to reinvigorate their enthusiasm for listening and they’re able to relax and participate with material they’re familiar with. I also offer workshops on 5-String banjo, acoustic guitar and ukulele. I’ve been doing workshops for many years and they are not blasé, run-of-the-mill events, but highly developed learning methods taught for all skill levels.
